Register Of Deeds

Overview

The Register of Deeds Office is responsible for the recording, indexing and preservation of all real estate records, vital records, UCC's, plats and other miscellaneous records. The Northampton County Register of Deeds Office has real estate records extending back as far as 1741. Marriage records are available from 1863. Birth and death records date to December of 1913. Records can be searched through hard-copy indexes. This office is responsible for issuing marriage licenses and certified copies of birth, death and marriage records are available.

Notice

According to Governor Cooper's Executive Order Number 120, released on March 23, 2020, the Northampton County Register of Deeds office will continue to exercise their duties as required by North Carolina General Statue. We are receiving mail via post office, FedX, UPS and a secure mailbox located in front of the building. We are also issuing marriage license and notary oaths by appointment only. New Online Record

The land records from the Northampton County Register of Deeds office are now available for the first time on the Internet. They can be accessed for free at northamptonrod.org. The computerized index will offer access to records from January 1, 1991 to current.
